About the Candidate
Mission & Vision
My name is Jupiter LeBlanc, born and raised in Lafayette, I graduated from Lafayette High and LSU, where I obtained my Bachelor's in Political Science. I'm one of nine siblings who all live in the Lafayette area. After college, I spent six years in New Orleans working as an artist, bartender, server prior to transitioning to a career in healthcare IT. While in New Orleans, I served my community as a mediator for the New Orleans Independent Police Monitor Community-Police Mediation program and representative on the Police Community Accountability Board for District 1, and volunteered with other artists and organizations across the city.
In 2021 I moved back home to be closer to my family. Returning to Lafayette to live rather than being an itinerant visitor, I’m stunned by how little the city has changed for the better. While there have been some great investments in the community, the city largely remains poorly planned, badly managed, and its potential completely neglected.
For example, we have a nationally recognized university and a state of the art municipal internet provider in District 45, yet we have a ~45% graduation rate and thousands of residents lacking access to the high-speed internet THEY PAID to build.
As the main artery of the City we have to contend with the City’s worst traffic while some neighborhoods are fully devoid of sidewalks, or any safe space to bike or walk.
These are just two things I think could be improved in our District and City that would also improve our State as a whole. ​
